Support Our Missionary

Charlene Barnes, rn

Serving children suffering from extreme generational poverty with her skills as a nurse and as the Director of GSG Medical Missions.

Charlene Marie Barnes has been serving in medical missions for more than 20 years. Her sending church in Ohio is Believers Pentecostal Church and her local church in Guatemala is Iglesia Fresca Presencia.

In the spring of 1977, Charlene set out to pursue a career in nursing. Unbeknownst to her at the time, God had already chosen the career path in preparation for the ministry He had for her. With experience in long term psychiatric nursing, geriatrics and medical surgical nursing at Springfield State Hospital in Maryland, there is nothing she hasn’t seen or experienced. Charlene also worked as a nurse in the Maryland Prison system.

Charlene answered the call to serve in medical missions in 1999 while attending New Life Chapel in Westminster, Maryland. She joined Mercy Mission Teams NC for her first trip and served with them for many years. After 31 years in nursing, God instructed Charlene to retire and relocate to Ohio where she served with Living Waters Medical Missions, Int’l.

Charlene has served extensively in medical missions throughout Latin America, including the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Guatemala, Nicaragua and the Amazon Jungle of Peru. Her desire is to minister the Gospel through relief and development, showing the love of Jesus to everyone she meets while meeting their physical needs. Charlene is currently based in Guatemala where she is serving as the Director of  the medical division of GSG Mission, Inc.  GSG Medical holds medical clinics and ministers to the indigenous people in remote rural and mountain villages where most people can’t reach.

“I once heard a minister say, ‘When we live in our boxes, our boxes become coffins and we die there.’ Dare to live outside your box. The excitement and anticipation of stepping out in faith holds no comparison to a stifled dream.”

Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. – Jeremiah 33:6

God Said Go missionaries do not receive a salary. Each looks to God to provide the funds for their own personal living and ministry costs. Financial Partners are those who commit themselves to invest financially with their missionary so that together they minister to those in need. Some invest monthly, some quarterly and others once a year. Financial partners receive personal news and first hand reports from their missionary about the results of their joint efforts.

It is the commitment of a faithful partnership team that enables us to go where God has led us to minister. With that commitment comes a unique bond that further strengthens our relationships with those members. Becoming a ministry partner will not only help meet our financial needs but fills a vital intercessory role as well.

Can we be partners in ministry together?
