Pure Agua Project
The Pure Agua Project is a joint project with God Said Go Missions and Radical Missions to provide water purification systems throughout Guatemala in hard-to-reach villages currently suffering from extreme generational poverty.
Our goal in 2021 is to install 20 municipal water purification systems. Each system can deliver all the clean drinking water a village of up to 1,000 people needs. These systems not only filter the water but they purify it! It is a fantastic solution for most of the villages we serve.
There are four major components to the Water Purification System:
Purifier
The Model 11 McGuire Water Purification System distributed by New Life International is an electrolytic chlorine generator that converts ordinary salt into a safe disinfectant that purifies water from biological contamination.
In operation, water is circulated through the system and chlorine is gradually added at a prescribed amount and monitored through sample quality testing.
The unit is powered by 12-volt DC battery supply. Cost: US$1200 – US$1500 per unit.
Battery
A deep cycle DC battery is used to power the purifier system. Cost: US$250.
Tank
Polypropylene treatment and storage tanks are used because of their reliability and ease of maintenance. Tank sizes will be determined through a detailed site evaluation and are dependent on water volume need and consumption. Cost: US$100 – US$500 (varies by size).
Infrastructure
Some locations may require site modifications/improvements to optimize the water purification system installation. These may include but not limited to platform base structure for tank(s), plumbing/piping of water from source to tank, overhead shelter of purification site, water distribution/extraction points, security. Cost: varies to the extent of necessary infrastructure improvements.
Total System Cost
On average, each system will cost US$2,000 to install. When you divide the cost over the amount of gallons processed in the first year, the clean water generated from this system will cost less than a penny a gallon! Properly maintained, these systems will last many more valuable years before needing refurbishment.
Will you partner with us to provide 20,000 people with clean water this year?
